UK & European Investments has appointed Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd to deliver the £30 million redevelopment of Town Square, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Following the appointment, enabling works are set to start on the scheme at the end of the month with demolition works commencing at the beginning of February.

The aim is for Town Square – which will be renamed Bell Court as part of the redevelopment – to become a high quality destination within the heart of Stratford, delivering more than 70,000 sq ft of retail, restaurant and leisure space.

UK & European Investments has already announced that a 12,000 sq ft Everyman cinema will anchor the development. Additionally, a deal has been signed with Byron that will see a 3,860 sq ft specialist hamburger restaurant opening.

John Stacey, Asset Management Director at UK & European Investments, said: “Following planning approval at the end of 2015, we are now in a position where we can move forward with delivering Bell Court.

“Over the next couple of weeks, we will begin to see hoarding being put in place around the site as part of the enabling works and following this, Buckingham Group Contracting will commence demolition at the beginning of February. Access to the site will be restricted throughout the construction process to ensure that the development works can be undertaken safely.

“We will be working closely with our team to ensure that the project is completed with minimum disruption.

“For many years, this area has been seen as an eyesore so I’m sure the beginning of construction will be widely welcomed by the local community.”

In addition to the improvements that will be made to the retail and leisure units, major enhancements will be made to the public realm, including outdoor seating, soft landscaping, feature lighting and the introduction of public open space for events and outdoor entertainment.

“This is a complex project that will involve demolition work, restoration of existing units and extensive new landscaping. The end product is something that is set to benefit both local residents and visitors to the area.”

Buckingham Group abides by the practices outlined by the Considerate Constructors scheme meaning every care is taken to ensure as little disruption as possible for nearby residents and businesses.

The NCP car park, accessed from Rother Street, will remain operational during the construction project. Debenhams, H&M, Lush, Men’s Shed, Timpson, Bodycare, Numpty La and The Brow Studio will all remain open when construction starts.

UK & European Investments, acting as investment manager, owns the lease to Bell Court; two thirds of which is owned by Stratford District Council and one third by Stratford Town Trust.
